Finding the Male and Female
Males have their genitals under their posterior pair of legs where the females have their genitals under the third pair of legs from the posterior. Some have both though… ut if that’s the case, they are male. ( or maybe not… )
Making them mate
It happens any time so by just leaving them there it should happen. Different species will mate at different temperatures or circulation so experiment a little. Mating could be a little violent so the female could loose a claw during the process. The eggs will then get kept under the legs and once ready they will be released. Best to separate the male from the female just incase the fry get eaten when they are released.
Young ones survival rate
They feed on any decomposing stuff at the bottom of the tank. When they are released they are already fully developed. Somewhat like a prawn. They are very aggressive and having a large tank or separating them out by size would be a good option to consider. Plentiful hiding places is also advisable as they would molt often and increase in size.
